Project Lawsuit Abuse Newsmakers

Tort reformers have been turning up all over the internet over the past few days. We took the liberty of rounding up some of the standouts that hit over the past week. You may recognize a few friends of Project Lawsuit Abuse in there. Here are some of the newsmakers from around the country:

• Another Study, Another Lousy Ranking for California
“Economic development comes from investment, right? Investors are the people who will drive our state back to success. If investors do not think California has a good legal, tax or regulatory climate, they will not locate in this state. Period.” Fox and Hounds Daily

• Keep selection process for appellate judges
“Earlier this year, Tennesseans spoke out. Under the leadership of Gov. Bill Haslam, they made it clear that the state needs civil justice reform as an important way to grow jobs. By overwhelming majorities, both houses of the General Assembly agreed, and the Tennessee Civil Justice Act will become the law of the land Saturday.” The Commercial Appeal

• Ad campaign seeks limits on civil lawsuits
“A coalition of business groups is launching a statewide advertising campaign, seeking new legislative momentum to put limits on civil lawsuits, like for asbestos claims.  The groups — called the Coalition for Common Sense and Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch — announced the ad campaign Monday with the leaders of two companies in the state who have claimed to be hit with lawsuits that have no merit but are draining dollars from their ability to do business.” WAFB-TV

• Groups fight ‘frivolous’ suits
“Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch and Coalition for Common Sense launched an advertising campaign to publicize a poll they say shows public support for their initiatives and sent questionnaires to put legislative candidates on record regarding the issue.” The Advocate
