New York Makes Its Way Onto 'Judicial Hellholes' List
Our friends over at the Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York (LRANY) aren’t so keen on their state’s ranking on this year’s Judicial Hellholes Report – released last week by the American Tort Reform Foundation.
New York, which has long been suffering at the hands of lawsuit abuse, only made the watch list last year. Their climb in the rankings certainly isn’t a recognition LRANY is proud of.
The report’s methodology is based on ridiculous lawsuits that have made their way through New York courts and the state’s payout of tort related claims in the past year.
Tom Stebbins, executive director of LRANY and Project Lawsuit Abuse Contributor, said, “To really spur on New York’s economic recovery, we need to reverse this trend… Other states that have implemented common sense lawsuit reform have done a much better job of weathering the recent economic downturn.”
Hopefully the ranking will resonate with those in New York who can make a difference. We’re looking at you, lawmakers.
