We’re thankful for more jobs, less lawsuits
In a time where jobs are necessary for economic growth, there’s one thing we don’t need more of: lawsuits.
However, before many businesses hire, they must make sure they are prepared financially in case they face a frivolous lawsuit. According to a recent article in Business Management Daily, “desperate [job] applicants may feel they have nothing to lose by suing.”
This isn’t the legal environment where we’d like want to build a business. An onslaught of frivolous lawsuits hurts small businesses that are struggling to increase staffs and keep expenses low. Suing a business for not hiring a certain applicant, even without any evidence of discrimination, isn’t the way to foster job growth.
So, as we think about the things we’re thankful for around the dinner table this Thursday, we’ll nod our heads to recent reforms passed in states such as Texas, and hope for more reforms to follow. Tort reforms have helped small businesses expand and keep doors open to get our country back onto its path to prosperity… and that’s something worth toasting this holiday season!
